Jubilee records the events which transformed the 10,000-acre Marinette cotton plantation into a retirement community that set a new standard for the world. Experts said a community solely for the elderly was destined to fail, but Del Webb and the Webb Corporation proved them wrong.  Opened on January 1, 1960, 237 homes were sold the first weekend, and Sun City was completed in less than 20 years with a final population of nearly 40,000 adults

“Newcomers to Sun City West are impressed with its gently curving streets, neat homes, lovely landscaping, lush golf courses, and inviting recreation centers.  Few of them realize that 25 years ago, this was the home of the Circle One Livestock Company with its thousands of cattle – land that, according one rancher, was “fit only for raising lizards.”
